Last Elections

YSR's major campaign slogar for the 2009 general election was this: "Development and the credibility ".
In the elections, YSR's party secured the required majority in the assembly (156 seats) and also won 33 seats in parliament.

Earlier YSR shot to political prominence in 2003 with his 1,500 km padyatra which helped him return from anonymity and defeat the once invincible TDP. Handpicked by Rajiv Gandhi in 1983, YSR has since been a loyal soldier who soldiered on in the Congress despite being in the sidelines for the full decade of the nineties. These were some good points which held him in high standard inside the Congress.

YSR belied his own expectations and beat predictions of a hung assembly to ride back to power for the second time. This time he had a bigger challenge. Not just a resurgent third front led by TDP's Chandrababu Naidu but also the star appeal of Praja Rajyam Party's Chiranjeevi.

Then YSR was sworn in as the chief minister for the term of 2009–2014 on 20 May 2009. The ceremony was held in Hyderabad and attended by a crowd of around 20,000 people.
